Japanese Cultural Crafts and Ceremonies

Object

For my Art project, I created a puzzle with a painting of a samurai on it. There are some missing pieces showing a modern man inside of the samurai armor. The samurai warrior is wearing red armor and has a dragon around him. The Modern man only has tattoos on his arms and is wearing a blue tee shirt. I wanted to show that when the people from the west arrived in Japan, it marked the end of the Samurai. Around the painting I left a lot of negative space because I noticed negative space is present in many Japanese paintings. I made the edges of the puzzle a light shade of blue and tried to make it look like it was slowly fading into white.
The Meiji restoration marked the end of the samurai in Japan. The Meiji restoration period was a very important time period in Japan, where Japan opened itself to the outside world.
